Israel: The Promise Kept / Not Coincidence!
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. (8). And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Genesis 17:7,8
The rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948 is unique among all the nations in history. The entire nation was destroyed, not once, but twice. Amazingly, after each devastation it came back into existence. Not only was the nation destroyed twice, but each time the vast majority of the people were taken captive into foreign countries. Yet, the Jewish people always returned to the land: all this points to the uniqueness of Israel. This nation is not like other nations.
In 586 BC, the Babylonians totally destroyed Israel, Jerusalem and their temple. This destruction resulted in nearly all the Jews being taken captive to Babylon. When a people were taken captive as the Jews were, they usually were lost to history. The Jewish people are different. They, remained in Babylon for 70 years and then returned to rebuild Jerusalem and their temple. This occurred 2540 year~ ago!
The Romans, some 650 years later in 70 AD, again destroyed the nation, Jerusalem and the temple. In 136 AD, the Jews again revolted against Rome. They were totally defeated and suffered their final dispersion into all the world. Very few Jews remained on the land after this war with Rome.
Israel should have ceased to exist as a nation and probably as a people in 586 BC, but it survived. Israel defmitely should have ceased to be a nation in 70 AD, but just as the ancient Bible prophets wrote, the nation was literally reborn nearly 1900 years later on May 14, 1948. In June 1967, Jerusalem once again became the unified capital of Israel. They speak the same language as their ancestors! They kept the same religion while in exile. There is simply no other nation like Israel.
He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. (9) Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; (10) And confmned the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: (11) Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: Psalm 105:8-11
This covenant focused on the land now called 'the nation of Israel. God, deals with nations according to this covenant. God's covenant relationship with the descendants of Abraham is still in effect. God never cancelled the everlasting covenant concerning the land of Israel. The prophets warned the Jewish people not to turn from God to worship the pagan gods. Unfortunately, they rebelled against God. The penalty for this rebellion was removal from the land and dispersion into other nations. This was literally fulfilled.
Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it: And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. Ezekiel 36:18, 19
The explanation for the uniqueness of Israel is found in the everlasting covenant that God made with Abraham, the father of the Jewish people, 4,000 years ago. This everlasting covenant is the reason the Jewish people and the nation of Israel exist today. The covenant included the land of Canaan becoming an everlasting possessIon for the Jewish people. Today, the area of Canaan includes Jerusalem, Israel, Gaza, West Bank (Judea and Samaria in the Bible), Golan Heights and southern Lebanon.
The Everlasting Covenant Made by God
The Bible does not say the nation would be permanently destroyed but because of the everlasting covenant, God would one day bring the Jews back into the land of Israel.
Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. Leviticus 26:42
We are now living in the time that the ancient Jewish prophets wrote about, the nation of Israel has been reborn and Jerusalem is once again its capitaL The reality of God and the Bible then can be "proved" through the fulfillment of what the Bible states about the nation of Israel. What an awesome concept this is, Bible prophecy is alive before our very eyes! God warns the nations that the land of Israel is not to be divided, because the nation that attempts to divide Israel, God will judge.
I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted (divided) my land. Joel 3:2
The United States has been Israel's best friend. Unfortunately, starting with President George H.W. Bush in 1991, America pressured Israel to divide the covenant land· with a Palestinian state. This is in violation of the Bible, and started with the Madrid Peace Process and continued to this day through the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
On the very day the US government pressured Israel to divide the land awesome disasters hit the nation. Since 1991 there have been over 50 such correlations. Below are ten examples of what happened when the US pressured Israel to divide the covenant land.
October 30, 1991: President Bush initiates the Madrid Peace Process. While he is speaking in Spain the Perfect Storm sends 30 foot waves against his home in Kennebunkport, ME destroying the house.
