GRACE PLACE... A Christian Senior Center, in the Foothills Community, east of Yuma.
This is a dream at this stage, and close to my heart, but with the assurance from the Lord, that He is preparing someone in His vineyard, to leave us a piece of land, or the funds to buy and build a class act, Christian Senior Center in the next few years, as the area grows with a winter as well as year round population.
With the beginning of this new century, we are seeing the population in the USA, aging as a whole, and primarily the states of Arizona and Florida, being the place where the majority of senior citizens 60 and older, will retire, or pick to retire. This increase in senior population as well as the needs for service will continue rising and reach an all time high, until 2045, according to statisticians.
The need for Institutional as well as Home Care will increase dramatically, along with thecosts to provide it. Over the next several years Congress, as well as the private sector may be called upon to address many of the unresolved issues, such as:
* whether to expand community as well as home based and private services.
* how to combine public and private sources of money for care
Right now each winter brings 100,000 visitors to the area, from Canada, the Northwest, California, Midwest, and now some Easterners, with many deciding to sell their motor homes they come here with, and buy a place to eventually retire.
The area is booming with low cost manufactured as well as site built homes going up as fast as they can be built. So much so that Wal-Mart is building its 3rd Super Store on the edge of the Yuma Foothills area, as well as 2 new well known Motel chains are building this year
This also brings many who are looking to work, do volunteer work with some charitable institution, senior home repair work, hobby enthusiasts, and some just finding companionship, that off sets the loneliness of living alone.
Right now there is a good year round population of seniors living here, with many on little more than Social Security
to keep them going.
Some are here without a thought of eternity, and spend their days and nights gambling and drinking away their retirement nest egg.
The need is here, and this is where we see the need to begin.
We have programs waiting for persons to take them and run, such as our Senior Telecare Ministry... calling daily to shut ins, to cheer them up and check on their well being. You can do it!

SENIOR GROUP FUNCTIONS...
are a blast for the givers as well as the receivers. In- house functions will be a weekly cheer-up for all who attend and participate.
CAN"T GET OUT AT NIGHT?
Also every Wednesday morning there will be an in house Senior Bible Study, conducted by one of the area Pastors. Plans are to have a noon snack as well for attendees!

RETIREMENT LIVING... will be an ongoing program at GRACE PLACE, offering programs of healthy living, food preparation, clinics, exercise, financial planning,
SHORT TRIPS... will be offerred to places of interest and excitement, offering a chance to get out with others and do a little traveling.
FIDUCIARY services will be offered to those families wishing for someone to look after their loved ones, who can no longer do it, or don't desire to be burdened with it.
"HI NEIGHBOR" TELECARE - Telecare, is a Christian, non-denominational, ministry, using trained church volunteers, to make daily calls from their home or the office, to senior citizens, home and bedridden persons, those living alone or in questionable health,or isolated, who subscribe to the service for a daily 'good neighbor' friendly telephone call to check on, counsel, and confirm the subscribers well-being.
These and other programs are ready to be implemented as funds and volunteers are found to implement. / ds
