 HOUSE OF HOPE / INDIA

T
he Children of
the Asphalt (India)

One third of world's poor children are in India.   First of all, some are not orphans, some are street children.

With a population of a Billion and growing, Indian children, especially those growing up on the streets of India encounter a bleak future. But I discovered that they cared less about future as they played with their cheap toys and siblings. It is amazing with what trash they can play.

The Exploitation of Children?
Indeed, the poverty in India forces many parents in India to send their children away to earn extra money for home... or to send them on their way permanently, by leaving them in bus and train depots.

Some because they no longer can afford to take care of them abandon them in bus and train stations, left there on there own to make it and survive... or die!!.

There they are left to fend for them-selves to survive, or be exploited by whomever offers them a roof, food or employment of legal or illegal kinds. The employers who hire such children pay them paltry wages, or make them slaves. Many a times, the parents themselves hire their children, so the question of paying the kids does not arise. Some when sent away never return home, or are heard from again.
It is survival of the fittest and toughest.

Young girls act as flower sellers and help in garland-making, while one can see boys act as vegetable vendors throughout India. Children of construction workers help in bringing water, cleaning vessels or collecting twigs for fuel. Their parents are compelled to come to cities when monsoon fails and they cannot cultivate their lands.

If only all such children could have some schooling after such jobs which are part-time, they could have better training in self-reliance, courage, discretion and responsible citizenship. Such practical schooling is not forthcoming. Only some metro cities like Mumbai (Bombay) have night schools, which working kids can attend.

Exploiting children is anathema in the west. While discouraged by the government, child labor isn't condemned in India. To me, their child labor laws seem outrageous. The government bans employment of children below the age of fourteen in factories, mines, abattoirs or slaught-erhouses, or in work such as printing, cashewnut descaling, or soldering.

In the states of Karnataka,  Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, ( where the homee is) the Devadasi system is prevalent.  This allows the dedication of pre-pubescent girls to a particular deity of a temple.

The traditional meaning of this was that the girls were to undertake religious work in the temple and might have a lifelong sexual relationship with one of the priests.

Currently, Devadasis are somtimes sent into prostitution at the instigation of the priests who try to attract additional income to the temple.   The system has degenerated to the extent that often these girls are sent directly to brothels.

A study conducted by Social Watch Group in 1996 reveals that children often enter the sex trade after they have been raped by street boys, squatters, porters or petty criminals.

Of 50 children in the study, more than 12 reported that they were also sexually abused by police officers.

You Can Provide

“A Day for Hope”

*

Let me introduce you to an India Pastor & friend, Christopher Srirama, and his 30 orphaned kids, in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Brother Chris and his wife, house, cloth, feed, & educate these kids, who have been sent away or abandoned by their parents, started, “House of Hope” without the help of goverment or church support.   He loves his Lord and is called to this work, but needs our help. Jan and I have done some but  need your help. You can Give a child

”A Day for Hope” through a  monthly or yearly Sponsoeship!

.

What does my sponsorship   provide?

$25 per month provides food,

clothing, shelter, a place to be-

long, an education, and an opportunity for 1 child to learn   and accept Christ, & grow with, values and ethics.

Where do I mail my sponsorship      to my sponsored child?

Send $25.00 each month or once yearly $300 to...:

Greater Grace Fellowship

A Day for Hope / India

How do I send my sponsorship to   my sponsored child online?

Call us and create an (AF) Account

Form, and it will be emailed tor sent

to you. Follow instructions to enter

your personal information and setup automatic or one-time payments.

May I send my sponsorship      several months at a time?

Yes, you may send payments in         three month, six month or yearly increments.  However, you will need       to remember when to send your

next payment.  Or  you may contact

me at deansmail@hughes.net or just call me at the ministry 928-595-4397

Will I receive a tax-deductible   receipt?

Yes... We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation here in the USA.     100 %  of your gift is taxdeductible.

To save on administrative expenses,   you will receive one total year-end receipt for tax purposes.  If your

e-mail is current, you will receive

an email receipt each time you give.

How much of my sponsorship     gift gets to my child?

100 percent.  All of our minimal administrative costs are funded by ministry sources and individuals who designated funding for that purpose.  Greater Grace Fellowship in India uses 100 percent of your sponsor-ship funds for the care of the whole child – physically, spiritually, and educationally.

If I send extra funds to GGF,    where does it go?

Any undesignated funds you send above your sponsorship amount feeds, clothes, houses and edu- cates all the other orphans who do not have a sponsor.  It improves the food, clothing, housing and educa- tion of all the children, resulting in improvements for your sponsored child too.  If you designate your   funds to a certain project (such as

special or repair & building projects etc) it will be used specifically for that project.

May I send a birthday or   Christmas gift to my godchild?

We discourage physical gifts for several important reasons.  Those gifts often get stolen before they arrive at HOH.  House of Hope may have to pay customs to receive them.  It is unfair to the other children, creating a competitive atmosphere.   However, you may send extra money at any time for birthday and Christmas.  It will go towards school supplies and backpacks for school or the new outfits or “dresses” that your godchild and all the children will receive for their Christmas and New Years presents.  Write to them!!! That is the greatest gift you can give them. We will put you in touch with your sponsored child

How can I make them feel special if I can’t send them gifts?

Write to them!!!  Send them a photo of you and your pets or your children.  When we asked children to show us their “treasures” in their little trunks, they pulled out pictures and letters  from their sponsors.

Things do not love kids....  Gods People do...

You and I may not go to help... but by giving...

You may never learn until heaven reveals... what your Love Gift produced for

Jesus !

You can put Greater Grace Fellowship in your will,
and help
us continue to fulfill the great commission...

Respectfully, for Greater Grace Fellowship / House of Hope
